After months of conversations and development, we’re thrilled to unveil our latest release: Panoply on Google Cloud BigQuery!
After six years of being a solely Redshift shop, we’re partnering with Google to deliver the power of BigQuery and the ease of Panoply. That’s right: you’ll get code-free data connections, a managed BigQuery instance, and industry-leading support, all in one easy-to-use—and surprisingly affordable!—package.
When Panoply was founded back in 2015, Redshift was the obvious choice. At the time, Redshift delivered superior results in terms of usability, performance, and cost. And while working with Redshift was more complex than other data warehouses on the market, that was exactly the challenge we’d set out to tackle.
Times have changed.
Over the last few years, the data infrastructure market has evolved in a variety of ways:
Finally, companies of all sorts are generating more and more data and they’re using it to gain an edge over their competitors. Today, more and more companies have access to data, not just an elite few at the enterprise level. Put another way: analytics has become table stakes regardless of company size or maturity.
As a result of that evolution, we’ve found continued demand for tools that put data in the hands of business users as well as analysts and data scientists.
But we’ve also seen a shift in what our customers want from those tools. Cloud-based storage is a given, so they’re now looking for cost-effective solutions that deliver best-in-class performance.
Which brings us to BigQuery.
As leaders in the data space, Google and Panoply are natural partners. Of course, the Google Cloud Platform offers an impressive set of tools to handle everything from data collection (Google Analytics) to storage (Google Cloud BigQuery).
With Panoply, companies get code-free data connections they can set up in minutes and the ease of a managed warehouse. That means they get the power of Google without bringing on a dedicated DBA, data engineer, or IT lead that has to own BigQuery.
First off, Panoply customers who are currently on—and loving—our Redshift-based service can rest easy: We have no plans to force a migration to BigQuery. That said, BigQuery comes with some big benefits.
With Panoply on BigQuery, users get 10x the storage. That equates to a full terabyte of storage included in our lowest pricing tier and unlimited automated scaling as your data needs grow.
Along with more storage for less money, BigQuery offers sophisticated separation of storage and compute. That means Panoply customers pay for the data they use and not a penny more.
Panoply customers on BigQuery will have access to unlimited compute power, which runs up to 5x faster for many data sources. In practice, that means faster load times for the data you rely on to run your business.
Panoply on BigQuery will also support 100 concurrent interactive queries, so your dashboards, BI tools, and analytical notebooks should all run smooth as silk...even if everyone in the company decides to wait until an hour before the weekly meeting to update their metrics.
While we’re making changes to how things are handled under the hood, Panoply on Google Cloud BigQuery users will still get the same service our customers have come to know and love:
